Having a reel is now an acting necessity! The industry wants to see what you are made of before they call you in for an audition. For those who don’t know, a reel is a short compilation of your filmed acting work, even if it’s just one scene! At the Actor’s Studio of Orange County, we produce reels for actors that demonstrate the BEST of their acting, because we focus on preparing the actors for the performance. Actors who join us for the December Reel Intensive (DRI) will receive a polished scene that they can be proud of. DRI is also a great way to assess where you are in your acting and prepare for a real, professional shoot.

Here are links to the previously filmed scenes at the studio:

COMEDY:

Once you sign up:

  • We will assess what your needs are for the reel. What genre do you want to do, what is your type? What do you want to “sell” about yourself?

  • You will be paired with a partner (of a similar training level and experience)**

  • You will be assigned a scene appropriate for your goals and level.

  • Over 4 sessions, Monday - Thursday, students will be immersed in a professional rehearsal experience where they are expected to prepare their scene, receive acting coaching, direction and blocking and come in the next day ready to go deeper. As always, we emphasize the quality of the performance in a reel, as that is the most important factor, so with the coaching of Philip, students will craft and polish a performance.

  • On the final day, Saturday, we will film the scenes! We transform every nook and cranny of the studio into a film set that suits your storyline. Each scene is allotted 60 minutes (or more depending) to film their scenes.

  • Within a month, you will receive a polished product.

Standard Film and Editing Package: Students are assigned a scene from our library of material. Scenes will be filmed and edited by our expert in-house director and videographer. The scene shoot experience is professional and the final product is a clean and polished edit.

Raw Footage Add-On: If you know how to edit, then this is the option for you! A week after the shoot you will receive all the files from your shoot so you can assemble your own cut. Please note that by opting for this, you will be paired with actors who have also selected to receive the raw footage.

Custom Written Scene Add-On: Finding the right scene is extremely important, so if you would like to have a scene custom written to suit your aims and needs for the reel, this is the best option for you. Our in-house script writer is certain to get a great script written just for you.

**Students are paired with others who have opted for the same editing package. The studio may be required to limit which packages are available depending on the number of participants.

All students are required to be vaccinated to enroll.

For this and all ASOOC film shoots at the studio, BOTH vaccinated and unvaccinated students will be required to submit a negative Covid test 1-2 days before filming unmasked. We will still be enforcing social distancing. Film shoots will be closed, which means only actors performing and the teacher and filming assistant will be in the studio at a time, so that those acting can be unmasked. Students unable to adhere to these requirements will have to film their scenes masked.

Read our Handbook for our full policies: https://www.asooc.com/student-handbook

COVID PROCEDURES FOR IN-PERSON CLASS PARTICIPANTS
Effective as of June 15th, for July classes (and a choice few others), students who can show proof of full vaccination (vaccination card dated at least two weeks prior for the 2nd shot) will be allowed to participate unmasked. Students who are not fully vaccinated will be required to remain masked to ensure health safety. We are keeping our social distancing policy and classroom size caps.

For any film shoots at the studio, unvaccinated students will be required to submit a negative Covid test 1-2 days before filming unmasked. We will still be enforcing social distancing. Film shoots will be closed, which means only actors performing and the teacher and filming assistant will be in the studio at a time, so that those acting can be unmasked. Students unable to adhere to these requirements will have to film their scenes masked.

How it will work:
On the first day of class, students are asked to show their complete vaccination card to the instructor. As long as the 2nd shot was at least 2 weeks prior, the student will then be able to participate in the class without masks.
COVID 19 NOTE:
Given the unpredictable nature of the pandemic, the studio may need to make decisions about the safety of its students by moving an in-person class online. Students registering for classes acknowledge this possibility and agree to transfer the class if/when the studio makes that determination. Students may not receive a refund or a transfer of credits in such an event.
HYBRID CLASSROOMS:
All In-person classes will function in a hybrid manner, which means that at any point a student can opt to join the classroom remotely. This will change and limit the way the student will participate in the classroom, but students will still get to learn and work in the class. Every in-person class will have a Zoom link assigned to it, so should a student need to miss meeting in-person, they can log in remotely and join the class. In the physical classroom, there will be a large screen where remote classmates will be viewable to the group. The teacher, using a laptop on a moving lecturn, will ensure remote participants can clearly hear and see their classmates during class.

PAYMENT DISCLOSURE
As always, there are no returns or transfers. Tuition reserves your spot in class; all classes fill up, so this is the only way to confirm your spot. Tuition is non-refundable nor transferrable, as class is a commitment to yourself, your scene partner, your instructor and the collective.
PAYMENT INSTALLATION POLICY
If an installment is purchased, a Recurring Authorization Payment Form will be part of the in person paperwork we will need completed. If you sign up over the phone, the form will be sent to you. Complete the form and turn it in before class starts. Without the form, you will not be officially registered in the class and will not be allowed to start your training until you have done so. A $1 charge will be made in order to ensure method of payment is valid. The value will be returned back to the card after the payment goes through. The last payment will be deducted on 11/30.
By opting for Installment Plans, you are making a commitment to pay them as scheduled regardless of absences or attrition; it is a legally binding contract. If such a commitment cannot be made, we recommend paying for the course in full or not enrolling.
ATTENDANCE POLICY
All health related absences will be excused, with or without a doctors note. Our nonrefundable tuition policy will stand; however, if you are unable to complete the course due to illness, we are willing to transfer tuition to another class in the following semester. If you are concerned about attending class in person, we will offer online attendance (via video call.) *This attendance policy is temporary, going into effect as of Winter 2020 semester. This policy is subject to change.
MAKE-UP CLASS POLICY
Excused absences may be made up by attending another similar class within 3 months of the absence. No other make-up arrangements or discounts will be offered.
